SEOUL, Mar. 19 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s leading automaker, said Tuesday it has been named an official sponsor of the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) World Tour Seoul Series set to open in South Korea this week.

The Seoul games will be held at the city’s Gocheok Sky Dome, where the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres will face off on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hyundai Motor said it will roll out six of its Universe hydrogen fuel cell electric buses for team transportation. Additionally, the company will provide a fleet of passenger cars, including Genesis GV80, Ioniq 5 and Staria models, as official vehicles for the series.

As part of commemorations for the first MLB matches in the country, Hyundai Motor said it will award an Ioniq 5 model to the player who achieves the first home run in the opening game on Wednesday.

Hyundai has also exhibited a specially designed version of the Ioniq 5 wrapped in logo and color designs of the two MLB teams at the Gocheok Sky Dome.

Jee Sung-won, the company’s global chief marketing officer, said Hyundai is excited to take part in the MLB World Tour Series Seoul, and highlighted that the company’s involvement marked the first time hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles are being deployed as official transportation in the history of MLB.
