SEOUL, Aug. 30 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s top automaker, said Wednesday it will create a solar power plant on its export pier in the southeastern city of Ulsan to generate clean energy.

Hyundai Motor will install a 27-megawatt solar power plant on its shipping pier and a test driving center in Ulsan, 414 kilometers southeast of Seoul, jointly with the state-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. by 2020. The automaker will use factory sites to expand the capacity to 100 MW later.

The photovoltaic panels will be installed in an area covering 260,000 square meters above parked cars waiting for shipment, which will also protect vehicles from the sun and rain, the automaker said.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said the solar power facility, the first joint project between a private firm and a state utility firm, is expected to boost its renewable energy initiative and help reduce CO2 emissions.
