SEOUL, April 26 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. has announced plans to produce clean hydrogen using biogas from sewage waste.

The company announced on Tuesday that it had signed a business agreement with the city government of Cheongju in North Chungcheong Province and the Institute for Advanced Engineering.

The agreement aims to establish a clean hydrogen production facility using biogas and to invigorate the hydrogen ecosystem.

As per the agreement, Hyundai will set up a facility for producing clean hydrogen using biogas from organic waste on the site of a public sewage treatment plant in Cheongju by 2024.

The carmaker also plans to increase its daily clean hydrogen output from 500 kilograms in 2024 to 1,000 kilograms in 2027.

Additionally, a hydrogen charging station will be built near the facility to supply clean hydrogen first to residents.

Later on, Hyundai plans to expand the area of supply towards the city’s public vehicles, such as hydrogen buses and hydrogen cleaning trucks.
