SEOUL, Aug. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s biggest carmaker, unveiled an electric vehicle adorned with Indonesia’s traditional batik pattern to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Seoul and Jakarta.
Hyundai Motors Indonesia last week showcased the all-electric Ioniq 5 Batik edition at the Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Tangerang. The vehicle’s interior and exterior are embellished with the Kawung pattern.
The Kawung pattern, originating in the Yogyakarta region of Java Island, is inspired by the palm tree’s fruit motif.
The Kawung pattern graces the Ioniq 5′s hood, roof, and side panels, while the interior boasts the pattern on the steering wheel, armrest, and seats.
Produced in Indonesia since March 2022, the Ioniq 5 achieved impressive sales, totaling 3,362 units in the first half of this year, capturing about 49 percent of the electric car market.
For the 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit set to take place in Jakarta from September 5 to 7, Hyundai plans to supply 346 units of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 sedan.
The Ioniq 5 will serve as the operational vehicle for the conference, while the Ioniq 6 will function as the official ceremonial vehicle for the leaders’ spouses attending the summit.
