SEOUL, July 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Group is set to support an organization that promotes plastic toy recycling as part of efforts to contribute to a reduction in plastic waste.
The carmaker announced on Tuesday that it will support a social cooperative organization named “Green Move Workshop” which is engaged in the donation of plastic toys that have been repaired and disinfected to community children centers.
On the same day, the Green Move Workshop held a ceremony to celebrate the opening of its office within Hyundai Motor’s building in Anyang.
The ceremony was attended by many dignitaries, including Lee Chae-jin, head of the Green Move Workshop, Kim Kyung-hee, chief of the Social Contribution Division of the Community Chest of Korea, and Lee Byung-hoon, senior manager of Hyundai Motor Group.
In collaboration with the Community Chest of Korea, Hyundai Motor Group will provide a wide range of support, including office space and subsidizing operating costs.
Hyundai will also help the Green Move Workshop repair and disinfect wasted plastic toys, as well as develop joint programs.
This move is a part of the carmaker’s efforts to contribute to reducing plastic waste.
Currently, toys account for about 30 percent of the world’s annual supply of plastic waste, which is estimated at about 8 million tons.
