SEOUL, Sept. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. said Thursday it has been selected for the 2021 Targeted Airshed Grants provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and it will be supplying hydrogen-powered trucks for the program.
The TAG was first initiated by the EPA in 2015. It is a funding program based on applications from different regions or air quality control agencies within state governments aiming for the reduction of air pollution in the U.S.
The EPA typically approves around 10 projects for funding every year with applicants forming consortiums with partner companies as part of their proposal.
In this year’s TAG program, Hyundai joined hands with First Element Fuel, a hydrogen fueling station developer and operator, in a project led by California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District.
Hyundai signed a contract with FEF to provide five XCIENT fuel cell trucks by the third quarter of next year.
The trucks will be tested in California for 12 months before they are deployed for commercial operation.
