SEOUL, Nov. 17 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Motor Co. has introduced the ‘Encino’ subcompact sport-utility vehicle in a Chinese motor show, in a move to revive sales in the world’s biggest automobile market, the company said Friday.
In the 15th China Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, the country’s largest carmaker by sales has unveiled the Encino subcompact SUV, the Chinese version of the Kona SUV, Hyundai Motor said in a statement.
The Encino SUV equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will go on sale in the Chinese market in the first quarter of next year, it said.
To help boost sales in China, Hyundai began to sell the upgraded ix35 compact SUV on Wednesday. The face-lifted ix35 SUV is also on the display during the motor show from Nov. 17-26, the company said.
In the January-September period, Hyundai sold a total of 489,340 vehicles in China, down 37 percent from 779,000 units a year earlier due to bilateral political tensions over the deployment of an advanced U.S. missile defense system in South Korea.
