SEOUL, July 7 (Korea Bizwire)A South Korean auto component maker under Hyundai Motor Group has successfully conducted the nation’s first trial of an anti-drone system (ADS).

Hyundai WIA announced on Thursday that it successfully completed the ADS interception test at a military firing range in North Chungcheong Province.

The company developed the ADS by combining a soft kill feature, which disrupts drone radio signals, with a hard kill mechanism that uses airburst ammunition (ABM) to shoot down drones.

To enable the identification and tracking of drones from significant distances, radar and optical devices were also integrated into the system.

This test specifically focused on the system’s hard kill function. Once drones were detected from a significant distance, they were identified, tracked, and subsequently shot down using optical technology.

The interception was achieved through the collaboration between the ABM and the remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS) developed as part of military modernization efforts.
