SEOUL, Dec. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Group has secured an order to supply more than 200 hydrogen-powered buses to the Chinese city of Guangzhou, marking the biggest single hydrogen bus procurement deal in China to date, the group said Friday.
Hyundai Motor’s Chinese hydrogen fuel-cell subsidiary, HTWO Guangzhou, together with Chinese commercial vehicle maker Kaiwo Group, won first place in a recent evaluation by Guangzhou Public Transport Group Co. for the city’s procurement project.
Under the city’s plan to introduce a total of 450 hydrogen buses, HTWO Guangzhou and Kaiwo Group will supply 224 units of the jointly developed model.
The deal marks the largest single order for hydrogen buses ever awarded in China. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The two companies had previously secured another contract last month in a separate bid by the same bus operator, then winning 25 out of 50 units sought.
In total, the companies will deliver a fleet of 249 hydrogen buses to Guangzhou Public Transport Group within the year.
Hyundai Motor said the deal recognizes the quality and durability of the hydrogen buses jointly developed by HTWO Guangzhou and Kaiwo Group, and it expects the order to strengthen the group’s position in China’s fast-growing hydrogen mobility market.
