SEOUL, Nov. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor’s compact electric vehicle, the Casper Electric — marketed in Europe as the Inster — is rapidly emerging as a standout in Germany’s increasingly competitive small EV market, earning one of the country’s most prestigious automotive honors.

The company announced on Friday that the Casper Electric has been named “Best Car Under €25,000” at the 2025 Golden Steering Wheel Awards, jointly organized by Germany’s leading automotive magazine Auto Bild and the weekly Bild am Sonntag. The award, among the most influential in Europe, has recognized top new vehicles since 1976.

The recognition underscores Hyundai’s growing footprint in Europe, where the company has already reshaped the mid-size EV segment with the Ioniq 5 and is now expanding aggressively into smaller, more affordable models. More than 30,000 Casper Electric units have been sold across Europe through October 2025, with Germany accounting for roughly 31 percent of total sales. The model now commands over 35 percent of Germany’s small EV segment — surpassing rivals such as the Fiat 500 and Dacia Spring to claim the No. 1 position.

A panel of 17 expert judges evaluated 72 models across 13 categories this year. The Casper Electric drew high marks for its everyday usability, unexpectedly spacious interior, fast-charging capability — reaching 80 percent from 10 percent in about 30 minutes at up to 85 kW — and competitive price point.

Xavier Martinet, Hyundai Motor’s head of the European region, said the model “offers a mobility solution that fits seamlessly into daily life,” adding that Hyundai will continue expanding its EV lineup “from the Casper Electric to the Ioniq 9” with advanced technology and progressive design.

The Casper Electric has been collecting accolades beyond Germany as well. It beat the premium Porsche Macan Electric to win the World Electric Vehicle of the Year category at the 2025 World Car Awards, and it earned four stars in the Euro NCAP safety assessment — notable for a vehicle in the small-car class.

Hyundai is also leaning into design-driven marketing to reach younger consumers. In Cologne, the company recently unveiled “Insteroid,” a retro arcade-themed digital experience built around the Inster concept car, blending gaming and automotive design to broaden engagement with the brand.

As Europe’s appetite for small, urban-ready EVs grows, Hyundai’s compact entry appears to be hitting the right note — on the road and in the showroom.
