SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Co.’s premium brand Genesis said Thursday that it will develop and apply a new biometric technology that can improve both convenience and safety for its GV70 SUV that is scheduled to be rolled out in mid-December.

This is not the first time for Genesis to apply biometric technology to its models. Previously, it employed some biometric features that enabled door opening and closing, engine ignition and driving through fingerprint verification.

Unlike the previous biometric features, the new one allows drivers to use Genesis’ ‘Car Pay’ in-vehicle payment system through fingerprint verification.

Genesis said that this will be the automobile industry’s first feature that would enable in-vehicle electronic payment simply through fingerprint verification.

In the self-verification stage before making payment, customers can use Genesis Car Pay in a simple manner by verifying their fingerprint through the fingerprint recognition sensor installed below the engine start button instead of entering their password.

The fingerprint verification system can also be used in valet mode, which prevents the customer’s personal information such as home address and phone number from appearing on the infotainment screen.

Valet mode is engaged when the customer uses valet service or replacement drivers.

The fingerprint verification system is also linked to the starting system and the setting of driver seat personalization options.
