SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen fuel-cell SUV, the All-New Nexo, has received the highest possible safety rating from Europe’s premier new-car testing program, the company said Sunday, marking another milestone for the automaker’s expanding lineup of alternative-energy vehicles.

The Nexo earned five stars in the latest Euro NCAP evaluation, recognized for maintaining stable passenger space in crash tests and for its suite of advanced safety technologies. Euro NCAP — launched in 1997 — assesses vehicles sold in Europe across four categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and safety assistance systems.

Test organizers cited the Nexo’s strong performance in both frontal and side-impact simulations, noting that the vehicle effectively minimized injury risks between passengers. The model received top scores for protecting child dummies representing six- and ten-year-old occupants.

Its automatic emergency call system and multi-collision automatic braking, designed to prevent secondary accidents, were also highly rated. Hyundai said the Nexo’s autonomous emergency braking system performed well not only with pedestrians but also with motorcyclists and other vehicles.

The recognition places the hydrogen SUV alongside Hyundai’s recent battery-electric models — including the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and this year’s Ioniq 9 — all of which have secured five-star ratings in Euro NCAP assessments.

A Hyundai spokesperson said the results reaffirm the company’s commitment to building “some of the safest vehicles on the road,” across both electric and hydrogen platforms.
