SEOUL, April 5 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Science and ICT said Tuesday it will invite regional for-profit and non-profit organizations to participate in a project designed to promote the creation of a metaverse work environment.

The project, dubbed “Metaverse Nomad,” was introduced last year on a trial basis, and more than 300 employees from three regions — Daejeong Villeage on Jeju Island, Seocheon County in South Chungcheong Province, and Pohang — participated in the project.

The selected organizations will be required to provide a metaverse-based work environment for remote workers, including business software, networks and office equipment, from June to November.

In addition, they will be required to offer facilities for non-work hour activities and experience activities linked to regional communities such as the production and processing of local staples.

For this year’s project, the ministry plans to provide funding of up to 150 million won (US$114,460) by region.
