SEOUL, Dec. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning will push for healthcare R&D projects that are directly related to citizens’ health and welfare. On December 9, the ministry announced that it has selected five healthcare service projects including mobile health scenario and platform development and biomarker-based diagnostic devices. Its budget set aside for the remaining days for the year is 2 billion won.

According to the plan, the ministry will develop a scheme to allow the patient’s health data to be used in multiple devices including mobile ones. The projects included development of bio-signal diagnostic artificial skin sensor, smartphone-linked multiple biomarker-based stress analyzer, smartphone-based mobile skin diagnostic management imaging system, dual-band life guardians-based stress measurement and analysis system development, and mobile health-based mobile health scenario and platform development. The ministry said that it will make sure the five projects would be linked to currently available wearable devices so that data can be exchanged freely.

Lee Jin-gyu, the ministry’s senior manager in charge of R&D policy making, said, “The healthcare industry is very promising for the future as it combines the two industry areas in which Korean companies have strength including the biotech and info-tech sectors. We will try to lend support to domestic firms so that they can lead the world in areas currently pioneered by the likes of Google and Apple.”
