SEOUL, Aug. 30 (Korea Bizwire)The Incheon International Airport Corp. (IIAC), South Korea’s main airport operator, has launched the trial operation of the nation’s first remote boarding facility at the second passenger terminal.

The remote boarding facility is an indoor boarding facility designed for passengers boarding a plane from the apron. Incheon International Airport introduced the facility for the first time in South Korea.

When boarding gates are extremely bustling during peak travel periods, passengers can move to the apron by bus and board the flight from there.

Existing apron boarding procedures have some inconveniences, including difficulty with baggage handling and exposure to bad weather.

To address such inconveniences, the IIAC built two remote boarding facilities each with a floor space of 550 square meters and two above-ground floors at the western apron of Terminal 2 in May.

By April 2023, the IIAC plans to add two more facilities at the eastern apron of Terminal 2.

To improve the convenience of passengers boarding the flight after moving to the apron, the IIAC introduced eight large eco-friendly electric buses, each of which can accommodate up to 90 people.
