INCHEON, Sept. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — The western port city of Incheon will start operating a new digital signboard system to inform bus drivers whether passengers are waiting at bus stops from late this month.
If passengers push a button installed at bus stops, the digital signboard displays a notice text saying ‘passengers are on standby.’
The city government installed devices needed to launch the system at 103 bus stops starting last week. These devices are powered by solar energy without the need for a separate power source.
The city government expects the new system to contribute to reducing the number of cases in which buses pass bus stops without stopping.
The new system also has the function of indicating whether or not transportation vulnerable people such as physically handicapped people are waiting at bus stops.
“We are expanding the installation of bus information terminals, public Wi-Fi, heating and cooling systems and shelters at bus stops,” a city official said.
