SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Korea Bizwire)Conventionally known as uncharted territory when it comes to K-pop, India’s interest in the music genre is said to be growing and local newspapers and magazines have been churning out features on Korean pop music in light of the Korean Wave that is headed that way.

The Economic Times, an Indian daily newspaper, allotted an entire page to introduce K-pop to its Indian readers in its edition published on August 4.

The article titled “K-pop Packs a Punch in Gangnam Style” was very detailed, laying out the specifics in terms of South Korea’s music industry history, the major performers, key trends and the genre’s spin-off effects.

The featured article was especially focused on the global success of K-pop after PSY’s epic superhit “Gangnam Style” made K-pop a mainstream phenomenon.

The story also introduced the factors that have led to the success of K-pop, such as the industry’s training system and the sophisticated choreography that is incorporated into K-pop dance moves.

The article went on to explain how K-pop utilized YouTube to its utmost advantage as Korean pop stars sought to communicate with their fans, which is not usually expected from celebrities in other parts of the world.

The feature concluded by stating how Korean brands such as Samsung, LG and Hyundai had dominated with skill and technology, but K-pop has paved the way for a “cultural economy” to grow rapidly in South Korea.
