SEOUL, July 21 (Korea Bizwire) – The Suwon Regional Prosecutors’ Office announced that it had detained two industrial spies, who tried to send parts from a Samsung Electronics’ refrigerator to Chinese manufacturers.
In addition, it indicted a former Samsung worker who delivered classified material related to investments in its refrigerator manufacturing facilities.
The prosecutors’ office said that the two industrial spies, including a former research fellow at Samsung, tried to send a document related to the Samsung Zipel T9000’s steel plate printing and “edge bending” technology to a famous Chinese electronics manufacturer in April last year.
The two industrial spies received another document from the indicted former Samsung worker last September.
An official at the prosecutors’ office said, “We are investigating their crimes after receiving intelligence reports that they were trying to transfer the Samsung technologies. Their company is not one of Samsung’s partner companies, and more details regarding their actions and the compromised information will be announced after the investigation.”
Samsung’s Zipel T9000 refrigerator is one of its flagship models, and is known as the “Jun Ji-hyun Refrigerator”, as the famous star is a spokesmodel for the product.
