INJE, Jan. 29 (Korea Bizwire)The 19th Inje Icefish Festival has attracted more than 45,000 people over the two-day period since its grand opening on January 26 in Inje, Gangwon Province.

The festival is being held on the ice fishing grounds in the upper Soyang River, and has been packed with visitors looking to catch some smelts.

Clear weather and warm temperatures have also helped the festival’s success, making it an attractive destination for families and children.

The festival has prepared various side events that families can enjoy, alongside the snow castles and ice sculptures on display at the entrance.

Sleigh rides and ice slides were set up for children, while seniors took photos in front of the massive ice sculptures.

Participants in the festival’s unique backpacker’s program set up tents in a variety of colors across the ice range to fill the night with beautiful lamps.

“The backpacker’s program meant a lot to me,” said an individual referred to only as Kim. “I can now go back with good memories that I will never forget.”

The festival plans to hold an ice soccer championship, smelt fishing Olympics and other festivities before it wraps up on February 3.
