SEOUL, Jan. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Police have opened an investigation into an influencer with about 200,000 followers on Instagram who is alleged to have sold fake Dyson hair dryers online, officials said Thursday.
The Seoul Jungbu Police Station said it is investigating an influencer surnamed Kim, who was accused of violating trademark laws by Dyson Korea last month.
Kim was accused of selling about 2,000 counterfeit Dyson hair dryers through his social media account last year.
He promoted the fake ones as original products imported from China and Europe, claiming that they could be certified through the website of the British home appliance maker.
He was suspected of selling the fake hair dryers at a price of 300,000 won (US$242) per unit, far lower than the original price of about 500,000 won.
“The dryers he sold were fake ones and he used copied versions of original registration numbers,” Dyson Korea said.
