SEOUL, May 4 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said Wednesday that a model analyzing satellite image data to identify areas requiring crime prevention facilities will be distributed to municipal governments nationwide.
The model, which is scheduled to be distributed from mid-May, was developed using the cities of Ansan and Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province as representative examples.
The development process involved analyzing about 20 different types of data, including the regional resident registration population, floating population, number of single-person households, location of adult entertainment businesses, rate of crime occurrence, density of CCTV cameras, housing types, and night satellite images.
The researchers from the ministry analyzed environmental characteristics such as population, household types, and adjacency of entertainment establishments in areas where crimes had previously occurred within the region.
They indicated the level of similarity as an index.
The analysis of satellite image data was also performed to identify dark areas due to a lack of night lighting.
