Irvine City Designates September 4 as Taekwondo Day

SEOUL, April 7 (Korea Bizwire)The U.S. city of Irvine, California has designated September 4 as Taekwondo Day, local Korean media said.

Korean-American Irvine Vice-Mayor Tammy Kim delivered a frame carrying the Taekwondo Day resolution to Grandmaster Lee Dong-seop, head of Kukkiwon, at Irvine City Hall on Tuesday (local time).

The city will hold a proclamation ceremony for Taekwondo Day at Irvine Great Park on August 27.

The International Olympic Committee designated Taekwondo as an official Olympic sport on September 4, 1994.

World Taekwondo designated September 4 as Taekwondo Day in 2006.

The California State Assembly and the city of Fullerton designated September 4 as Taekwondo Day in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
