IT Industry Instructs Staff to Work from Home in Quick Response to Heavy Rain

SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Korea Bizwire)With record-breaking rain hitting Seoul and Gyeonggi Province on Monday, major corporations asked employees to work from home.

Companies with prior work-from-home experience during the pandemic were able to quickly respond to the situation.

Samsung Electronics instructed all employees struggling with the morning flood to work from home. LG Group and SK Group also asked employees to either reschedule their working hours or allow each departmental head to decide on working from home.

IT companies were particularly willing to allow employees to work from home.

Naver instructed all employees to choose from ‘working three days in the office’ or ‘working fully online’, and said that it will regard all employees working from home as having come into work.

Kakao gave out accommodation subsidies to a number of employees incapable of leaving work on August 8. ‘Work-from-office’ enthusiasts NCSoft and Netmarble, too, instructed employees to work from home.

Most of the employees at manufacturing companies, however, had to go to work, since plants require staff at all times for full operation.

Samsung Electronics’ device solutions (DS) division advised its office workers to work from home but maintained a 24-hour shift for all essential fab employees.

Employees at small and medium-sized businesses that struggled to transition to a work-from-home system also had to show up for work.
