SEOUL, Sept. 12 (Korea Bizwire) – Among the places South Koreans travel to, Japan is the most popular destination when it comes to renting cars from TMAP.
According to the “TMAP Trend Diary Car Rental Edition,” which analyzed TMAP car rental data from January to July this year, Fukuoka, Japan, was the top choice for TMAP rental cars, with 23 percent of travelers going there.
Tokyo and Okinawa also featured on the list of popular destinations, accounting for 13 percent and 3 percent, respectively, while Guam and Saipan attracted 22 percent and 8 percent of travelers, respectively.
TMAP explained that many people are heading to Japan because of the favorable exchange rate (low yen) and the short travel time by flight, which has resulted in more people choosing to rent cars.
Within Korea, Busan was the most popular domestic destination outside of Seoul and its surrounding areas, with 15.7 percent of travelers heading there. Gwangju followed with 10.1 percent, then Yeosu with 6 percent, and Gyeongju with 3.5 percent.
The most common rental period was three days, chosen by 36 percent of travelers. The preferred car type was the Avante, and most people booked their rental cars either on the day of travel (10 percent) or the day before (12 percent), according to TMAP.
