SEOUL, July 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Japanese tourists have chosen Seoul as their preferred destination for overseas summer vacations this year.
The Japanese travel agency H.I.S. International analyzed its overseas travel products and air tickets for departures between July 21 and August 31 and identified Seoul as the top choice for Japanese tourists.
Of the Japanese tourists who booked trips to Seoul, approximately 30 percent were in their 20s, while around 40 percent were part of all-female travel groups.
Busan, a southeastern city that did not make it to the top-10 list last year, has now reached the No. 7 spot.
Market watchers attribute the increasing preference of Japanese tourists for traveling to Korea to two primary factors: the improved South Korea-Japan relations and the popularity of “hallyu” or the Korean Wave.
