SEOUL, June 26 (Korea Bizwire)“Fusion” and “Convergence,” major themes of the contemporary culture, will be incorporated into a new type of Jazz festival which combines Korean traditional cuisine and jazz tunes, offering a unique Jazz concert experience to the local audience.

The “2014 Seoul Jazz Wonderland,” a first of its kind in jazz concert history, will be unveiled on July 19 with great fanfare. Comprising a total of 24 jazz concert performances, this event will be characterized by talk show-like events in which cross-disciplinary approaches regarding a wide variety of subject including culture, arts, business, society, along with communication, disruptive innovation and “healing,” will be blended into this exotic concert for the next six months.

With the mesmerizing performances by 24 jazz artists, the festival will showcase an unusual attempt when it comes to understanding jazz genre; One of the events will feature a talk concert in which the audience will have an opportunity to be more familiarized with jazz under the context of Korean tradition foods.

At the event, 24 teams of Korean jazz musicians will play 24 famous pieces of jazz music created by world-renowned jazz artists — largely American jazz masters — and lectures on the history of jazz related to the jazz masters will also be given.

What sets this concert apart from other common jazz concerts is its talk show arrangements. As a highlight event of the festival, these talk shows will be focused on giving a clear and lucid explanation of somewhat “fuzzy” jazz music. As part of this effort, the talk show is scheduled to explain various genres of jazz and the famous jazz pieces to be performed at the stage, in particular comparing unique taste of Korean foods with the jazz pieces. The audience, in turn, can be able to experience the “taste” of jazz visualizing their familiarized Korean foods flavors.

Jun Jin-yong, organizer of the festival, said, “Jazz seems still unfamiliar music genre among the ordinary people. Quite a few people don’t have clear understanding of what jazz is all about. Still, it is not that easy to elaborate on the music. Explaining the music genre in detail — borrowing the concept of Korean traditional foods, will mark a landmark event which we hope will make jazz gain growing popularity among the audience in the near future.”

Under the sponsorship of Chosun Biz, a local news media, and the Korea Social Network Association, the concert will be held every Saturday from July 19 at JAZZDA in Hongdae area for 24 weeks. Tickets are available at the Internet pages of UCAN Funding and Seoul Jazz Wonderland.
