JEJU, April 11 (Korea Bizwire) — Jeju Island is currently experiencing an early spring season, with cherry blossoms blooming three days ahead of schedule. Consequently, the Rural Development Administration forecasts that the full bloom of tangerine flowers will happen over a week earlier than usual. Citrus flowers are expected to blossom in all regions by mid-next month, with some areas already in full bloom by month-end.

This phenomenon is attributed by the Rural Development Administration to the rapid biological season change of open-air tangerines due to the warming temperatures. However, the administration cautions that the temperature fluctuations in Jeju during spring will be extreme, resulting in disparities in blooming times across different regions.

Compared to the average tangerine flower bloom date of May 15 from 2003 to 2022 in 14 Jeju locations – the primary open-air tangerine production area – this year’s average bloom date of May 6 is nine days earlier on average. This is also 12 days earlier than the 2013 average flowering period of the 14 regions in the province (May 18).
