JEJU, Dec. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – A coding event for children was successfully held on Jeju Island last weekend, signaling the provincial government’s resolve to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

According to the island’s provincial government on Thursday, the two-day long junior coding hackathon was held over the weekend under the theme of ‘producing software for a better future of Jeju’, with scores of local elementary and middle school children participating in a coding project.

In line with the growing interest in coding education across the world, Jeju Island is working together with local governments and experts in the field as part of ‘Jejuro On Coding’, a scheme designed to teach children coding.

Jejuro On Coding began as the first government-backed software coding training program in the country, with local governments, universities, non-profit organizations, public educational institutions, and even corporations teaming up to create a systematic educational program.

Thanks to overwhelming support, coding education programs in Jeju grew rapidly, creating teaching jobs and contributing to the local economy, while serving as a role model for other provinces in the country.

As Jeju Island hopes to fast adapt to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Jejuro On Coding is widely being seen as a stepping stone to continued success.
