JEJU, May 5 (Korea Bizwire) —The emerging trend of workcations, a combination of work and vacation, is quickly gaining popularity in Korea as a way to diversify working conventions and boost the local economy.

This new tourism trend has become a major policy for local governments with well-known tourist destinations. Workcations allow for a lifestyle that combines work, rest, and tourism, and has garnered significant interest, especially among the MZ generation.

The government of Jeju Island is also joining the trend, promoting “workcations” to attract more tourists to the island. To further promote this trend, a briefing session for companies will be held in Pangyo, Gyeonggi-do, introducing Jeju’s various work vacation programs, Jeju officials said on Friday.

Jeju Island is a natural tourist destination, known for its scenic views and attractions. The event, to be held on the first of next month at Kakao’s Pangyo branch in the Seoul suburb of Seongnam in Gyeonggi Province, will introduce private workplace facilities, such as the Jilgraeng-i Center and the O-Peace Sagye branch, as well as the Jeju International Convention Center, which offer customized offices and support for leisure programs.

The Jilgraeng-i Center is run by the Sehwamaeul COOP, which was created by the villagers of Sehwa-ri, Gujwa-eup and is located on the beach of Sehwa-ri with wonderful scenery.

Jilgraeng-i is a Jeju dialect term similar to the native Korean word ‘jigeusi’ which means somewhat patiently and leisurely, thereby calling for a departure from the unique appearance of Koreans’ hectic and busy lifestyle.

The briefing session in Pangyo will also promote the freedom for companies to choose their own work location throughout the island. Ten private workplace facilities, including the aforementioned facilities, will participate in the event and introduce their programs and facilities to attendees. After the briefing, there will be an opportunity for attendees to exchange information with the tenant companies.

In addition to promoting “workcations,” the Jeju Island government is also expanding its private workplace facilities. One workplace office is being built in Seogwipo Innovation City and one in Jeju City, as the demand for these facilities is increasing due to the rise in remote work.
