SEOUL, July 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors forward Andrea Compagno has been named the top player in South Korean football for the month of June.
The Korea Professional Football League (K League) announced Tuesday that Compagno beat out three candidates for the Player of the Month award, extending Jeonbuk’s winning streak in this category to three months.
Jeon Jin-woo, Compagno’s teammate, was named the top player for both April and May.
The winner was chosen based on votes by the K League’s technical study group (accounting for 60 percent), fans voting on the K League website (25 percent) and players of EA Sports FC Online (15 percent) by Electronic Arts (EA) Sports, the league’s official video game partner.
According to the K League, Compagno finished tied for first in the technical study group’s voting but came out on top in the other two voting categories to finish with 38.39 voting points.
Compagno netted three goals in June — one against Suwon FC on June 17 in a 3-2 victory and two more against Gimcheon Sangmu FC for a 4-1 win on June 27.
The Italian forward has eight goals in 15 matches in his first K League 1 season so far, with Jeonbuk sitting in first place with 45 points. They also lead the league with 36 goals.
