JINJU, South Korea, Aug. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — The Jinju National Museum is on track to surpass 100,000 subscribers on YouTube, a significant milestone for a regional national museum, fueled by the success of its popular content series Firepower Joseon.
Launched on September 27, 2020, the series presents easy-to-understand videos that explore Joseon-era weaponry and military history, making the museum’s core research more accessible to the public and enhancing its online presence.
The Firepower Joseon series has gained widespread attention, covering diverse topics each season. Season 1 focused on the history of Joseon’s small firearms, while Season 2 delved into the Joseon gunpowder chronicles and key battles.
Later seasons explored pivotal historical events, such as the Manchu invasions and the Hong Gyeong-rae rebellion, with engaging short films like Sarhu and Jeongju Battle. The ongoing Season 6 compares weapons across East Asia.
The series has been praised for its solid historical research, expert storytelling, and dynamic video production, distinguishing it from other content.
As of August 8, the museum’s YouTube channel boasts 99,674 subscribers, with a total of over 30 million views, surpassing the National Museum of Korea’s YouTube subscriber count of 61,700, despite the latter’s popular Netflix animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters.
The museum’s YouTube subscribers have grown by an impressive 245 times, with views increasing by 1,286 times since the series launched.
Beyond its online success, Firepower Joseon has driven foot traffic to the museum. An estimated 9.4% of visitors, or 32,000 people, cited the series as the reason for their visit in 2022, demonstrating the content’s effectiveness in attracting a broader audience and contributing to the museum’s new operational model.
Jinju National Museum Director Jang Yong-jun attributed the success to the museum’s ability to reinterpret its valuable historical resources into engaging digital content, making them accessible to a wider audience.
He expressed commitment to continuing innovative efforts to enhance public engagement and raise the stature of regional museums.
