SEOUL, Feb.4 (Korea Bizwire) – Data indicates that Chinese tourists who visit Korea often buy instant ramen noodles and almonds at large discount stores.
Lotte Mart analyzed purchases made by Chinese tourists at its Seoul Station store. The results showed that sales of instant ramen noodles and almonds ranked first and second.
Sales of instant ramen noodles more than doubled (124.3 percent increase) last year, and almonds, which were previously in low demand, saw a sales jump of more than 257 times compared to 2014.
Sales growth was noticeable for ‘jjamppong’ flavored ramen noodles, with a six-fold increase, and honey butter flavored almonds accounted for 87.9 percent of almond sales.
On the other hand, sales of premium pies gave up the throne and slid down to rank third, and Korean chocolates, which ranked second in sales among Chinese tourists, dropped to fifth.
The ranking changes result from the rapid sharing of popular products in Korea through SNS.
Lotte Mart employees said that Chinese tourists bring pictures of products seen on Korean television, and ask them where they are located in the store.
