SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Korea Bizwire) – In a unique display of consideration for her upcoming concert’s impact on the local community, popular South Korean singer IU has gifted garbage bags to residents living near Seoul World Cup Stadium, where she is set to perform this weekend.

On September 19, a post titled “IU’s Thoughtfulness” appeared on a community forum for Seoul’s Mapo district. The author, a resident of a large apartment complex opposite the stadium, shared their experience living in an area frequently hosting major events.

“On days with soccer games or concerts, the surroundings get extremely crowded, and event noise can be heard until late at night,” they wrote.

The resident was surprised to find a gift from IU hanging on their door handle after returning home from work. Photographs shared in the post revealed multiple pink garbage bags inside a transparent plastic bag.

A note on the package read, “IU’s 2024 concert will be held at Seoul World Cup Stadium on September 21-22, 2024. We kindly ask for your generous understanding.”

“There were ten 20-liter garbage bags inside,” the resident commented. “I’ve lived here for over a decade, but this is the first time a performer has given gifts to residents for their concert. IU’s consideration is amazing.”

Another Mapo district resident chimed in, praising the gift as “very sensible and useful for every household.”

IU is scheduled to hold a concert for 100,000 fans at Seoul World Cup Stadium on September 21 and 22. However, the event has not been without controversy.

Concerns have been raised about the impact of large concerts on the stadium’s grass condition, potentially affecting the performance of soccer players who use the venue.

Recently, a petition was submitted to the People’s Voice platform asking for the cancellation of IU’s concert, putting the singer in an awkward position.

In response to these concerns from soccer fans, IU’s agency has stated, “We will strictly adhere to the ground usage manual and devote all efforts to maintaining the grass.”
