BUSAN, May 12 (Korea Bizwire)Despite a worldwide drop in maritime trade following the coronavirus outbreak, the volume of transshipment cargo at the Port of Busan continues to increase.

Operators at the Busan port reported that 977,000 transshipment containers were processed at the port’s nine piers in April, up 1.8 percent compared to the previous year.

The volume of transshipment cargo has increased for two consecutive months since March (1,025,200).

Port operators and the Busan Port Authority are surprised by the outcome, considering that the coronavirus has led to a major plunge in worldwide consumption and production and drastic cuts in service among global shipping companies.

Operators have argued that South Korea’s speedy and effective policy against the coronavirus has benefitted commercial traffic at the Port of Busan.
