SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Korea Bizwire)Kakao Enterprise Corp., an artificial intelligence (AI) unit of the country’s largest mobile messenger operator, Kakao Corp. said Tuesday it will strengthen its Internet of Things (IoT) business for smart homes and collective housing complexes in collaboration with smart home solution provider COMMAX Co.

In 2017, Kakao Enterprise’s AI platform ‘Kakao i’ was first included in COMMAX’s smart home device ‘Wall Pad.’

Wall Pad allows users to use their voice to control IoT devices at home and use public services at apartment complexes.

The two parties reached an agreement to expand the application of Kakao i into a wider variety of smart home devices that will be installed at residential facilities, including new housing complexes.

Previously, only at-home IoT devices such as lighting fixtures could be controlled by the smart speaker ‘Kakao Mini’ or the smart home mobile app Kakao Home.

From now on, however, even network and security equipment for all types of collective housing complexes such as apartments, officetels and villas will be able to be controlled through voice commands.

Kakao explained that it would enable its users to call an elevator, check the location of cars in a parking lot, and check if there are new packages inside their mail box simply by using their voice.

Kakao Enterprise has been installing the Kakao i system in apartment smart home systems in collaboration with five construction firms.
