SEOUL, May 10 (Korea Bizwire)Kakao Brain, an artificial intelligence (AI) unit of South Korean tech giants Kakao Corp., said Monday it had developed a new face-swapping technology called Smooth-Swap model.

The new model features a simplified architecture compared to the previously disclosed technology, thereby enabling face swapping in a more stable and faster manner.

The company said that it drastically reduced the complexity by replacing the existing face-swapping system module with an integrated identity embedder.

The technology consists of a vector representation of a face image used to compare identities, with two faces having close enough representation vectors regarded to have the same identity.

With simplified architecture and improved performance, the new model enhanced the potential for commercialization and expanded the area of technology application, while enabling face swapping even during video playback.

The company stressed that the new technology enables the creation of high-quality images to facilitate the development of digital humans such as virtual influencers and show hosts.
