SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Korea Bizwire) –Kakao Mobility, a leading South Korean tech company, announced on October 16 the launch of a new feature called Trending Now for its navigation app, Kakao Navi.

This innovative service utilizes big data from user driving patterns to recommend real-time hotspots based on user preferences.

Unlike traditional restaurant and nearby location recommendation services, Trending Now aims to provide a nationwide experience for users.

The feature offers four distinct categories: Neighbor’s Pick, which highlights popular locations chosen by users in the same area; Over 50km, showing destinations where users traveled more than 50 kilometers on weekends in the past four weeks; Rapidly Rising, which identifies places that have seen a surge in visitors over the past week; and This Month, featuring seasonally popular locations.

Each recommended location comes with additional insights derived from navigation big data, such as “frequently visited by locals,” “repeat visit destination,” “popular in the morning hours,” “OOO% increase in visits,” and “OO visitors yesterday.”

Kakao Mobility plans to introduce an AI-powered personalized recommendation feature in the first half of next year. This advancement is expected to offer tailored suggestions, such as places frequently visited by parents with children or popular destinations for travelers during rainy weather.

“We aim to provide users with enjoyable travel experiences by recommending cultural spaces, tourist attractions, and festivals across the country,” said Lee Seung-won, head of the navigation service team at Kakao Mobility.

“We plan to continue introducing advanced navigation services, including AI-powered personalized location recommendations.”
