SEOUL, March 22 (Korea Bizwire) — Kakao Mobility Corp., South Korea’s leading taxi-hailing firm, has formulated a plan to launch an advertising service for taxi passengers and share the profits with taxis affiliated with the firm by the end of this year.
The company said Monday that it will install Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) systems in 10,000 Kakao T Blue vehicles within the first half of this year.
At present, Kakao Mobility is conducting a test-run of the RSE systems, which allow passengers to check driving routes on a real time basis through a tablet screen, while providing affiliated content such as web dramas, animation and news.
This test-run, however, is now limited to taxis that are directly run by Kakao Mobility.
Kakao Mobility plans to expand the application of this program towards advertising, and operate it in the manner of sharing the profits with taxis affiliated with the firm.
After completing preparations, including deliberation over advertising content and arrangement of advertisers, it plans to begin the sharing of profits by the end of this year.
Kakao Mobility will also plan to continue to upgrade this service towards sending precisely targeted content, including destination and point of interest (POI) information, to users.
