SEOUL, April 21 (Korea Bizwire) — Kakao Mobility Corp., South Korea’s leading taxi-hailing firm, has unveiled a plan to launch a trial service of wheelchair taxis as part of its efforts to support those who are mobility-vulnerable.
The company said Wednesday that in collaboration with the Seodaemun District Office, it will launch a wheelchair taxi service for such people residing in the district. This service will use special vans converted to be able to carry wheelchairs.
The existing call taxi service for disabled people has been available only for those with severe disabilities and mobility disorders or the elderly aged over 65 who rely on wheelchairs for mobility.
As a way to strengthen its social responsibility, Kakao Mobility plans to relax the requirements for the use of its wheelchair taxis, aimed at making it more easily available to those in need as well as allowing more people with disabilities to make use of the service.
