SEOUL, Dec. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — The average amount South Koreans send as mobile wedding gifts has surpassed 100,000 won (US$68) for the first time this year, reflecting changing social norms and rising costs, according to new data from KakaoPay.

In its annual “2025 Money Report” released Wednesday, KakaoPay said the average transfer made through its digital wedding gift envelope exceeded 100,000 won this year — double the average in 2019, when the figure stood at roughly 50,000 won. It marks the first time the average using KakaoPay’s wedding gift feature has crossed the 100,000-won threshold.

The report also showed that KakaoTalk users are exchanging an estimated 1.4 million person-to-person money transfers per day, with the typical user sending or receiving funds about eight times a month.

Transfers made for group settlement — commonly used after dining, social gatherings or shared purchases — were most frequent on Sundays, followed by Fridays and Mondays. Once a settlement request was issued, all payments were typically completed within 8 hours and 29 minutes.

The Money Report aggregates a year’s worth of transfer behavior among KakaoPay users to track emerging financial habits.

KakaoPay said it is running a year-end promotion through Dec. 19 that allows users to receive KakaoPay Points as part of a holiday gifting campaign.
