SEOUL, Jan. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean IT giant Kakao Corp. said Thursday that its artificial intelligence (AI) powered system has surpassed humans for the first time in a Korean reading-comprehension test.
Kakao’s AI topped the list by scoring 91.85, surpassing a human score of 91.2, the company said. Clova, an AI platform by the country’s top Internet portal operator, Naver Corp., came in third place.
Kakao said its AI model combines speech recognition and natural language understanding to respond to a user’s questions.
“It should be noted that our model surpassed a human’s reading ability for the first time by utilizing natural language understanding,” Kim Eung-kyoon, a Kakao official, said.
The company said it is currently conducting research to apply the AI technology to its AI speaker Kakao Mini.
