SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Kakao Corp., the operator of South Korea’s dominant messaging app KakaoTalk, announced that it has added a new function enabling users to “sneak out” of team chat rooms without informing other team members.

Team chat rooms are usually opened by team leaders who use a pay-based data backup service. General users also can use these types of chat rooms after receiving an invite.

Unlike KakaoTalk’s ordinary group chat rooms, team chat rooms allow new participants to view previous messages.

Team chat rooms also provide a collaboration function enabling the leader to manage the room by kicking out participants. These rooms are used primarily for collaboration projects, university classes (group work) and school clubs.

The background behind the introduction of the new function is that there are many cases in which team chat users do not want other participants to notice when they leave the room.

In normal chat rooms, a notification is displayed for all participants to see when anyone leaves the room.

However, Kakao said the new function will not be applied to general group chat rooms or open chat rooms.
