SEOUL, April 3 (Korea Bizwire)To raise awareness about endangered animals threatened with extinction in Korea, and promote the value of our environment, the Korean government and a mobile messenger provider will distribute emoticons featuring the animals.

The Ministry of Environment and Daum Kakao, the operator of mobile messenger app KakaoTalk, announced on April 2 that they would distribute the emoticons to up to 100,000 KakaoTalk users for free.

For the campaign, the ministry designed 12 emoticons for four endangered animals, including the Asiatic black bear, Korean orange whiskered bat, lynx and Korean golden frog.

The Asiatic black bear, which is protected as a designated natural monument, has white V- shaped half-moon on its chest in the emoticons, and the golden frog is expressed with golden stripes on a green face. The lynx in the emoticons have black dots and furry ears, and the orange bat emoticons feature a cave background.

KakaoTalk users who become friends with the ministry can download the cute emoticons for free.

An official at the ministry said, “The emoticon campaign will help promote our ministry’s various policies and activities to most smartphone users.”
