KANGWON, Aug. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — A South Korean casino resort’s efforts to curb gambling addiction has proven popular, with its program for gambling addicts attracting hundreds of individuals in the five months since it was launched.

According to the Kangwon Land Addiction Care Center (KLACC), an anti-gambling addiction initiative that is intended to curb the number of days gamblers visit casinos every month has enjoyed a steady rise in participants since it was launched at the end of February this year.

Participants who join the KLACC’s anti-gambling addiction effort are encouraged to refrain from habitual casino visits, and can benefit from an incentive of 50,000 won for each day that they abstain from going to the casino, up to a maximum of 500,000 won.

Data provided by the KLACC shows the participants who have reduced their casino visits to only five days a month now account for nearly 60 percent of the total.

“Around 12 percent of the individuals in the program go to the casino fewer than five times a month. Helping gamblers to reduce the number of days they spend at the casino is an effective way of preventing gambling addiction,” an official at the KLACC said.
