SEOUL, Korea, Dec 23 (Korea Bizwire) – In the webtoon market hitherto dominated by large portals such as Naver and Daum, a new challenger has come in. Kartoon Cup, a service offered by Wholesee Inc., is set to change the general perception that all the cartoons available on the web are free of charge and will allow the reader to pick and choose cartoon titles they want from a wide variety of content.
Kartoon Cup be based on a subscription model under which readers are permitted to have access to an issue of the magazine with 12 cartoon titles a week updated on every Thursday. With an additional fee, they can view more titles. The first Android-version issue came out on October 7, with the iOS-version edition to be launched on December 19.
Unlike any other webtoon services such as Naver and Daum, tne of the advantages that the Kartoon Cup service supports different viewing types including cut view and page view, as well as scroll view employed by its rivals.
The webtoon artists who will publish their cartoon series on Kartoon Cup include Shin Il-sook (of “Lineage” fame), Park Seong-woo (“Legend of 8 Dragon Gods”), Park So-hee (“Princess Hours”), Koh Young-Hoon (“Trace”), and Choi Jong-hun (“Secretly, Greatly”).
