SEOUL, Jan. 24 (Korea Bizwire)KCON, an annual overseas K-pop concert series from entertainment giant CJ ENM, will return to Japan and the United States this year.

This year’s KCON, a festival of Korean music and culture, will kick off in Japan’s Chiba prefecture from May 9 to 11 and continue in Los Angeles from Aug. 1 to 3, CJ ENM said Friday.

Further details, including specific venues and artist lineups, will be revealed at a later date.

First launched in the U.S. in 2012 amid the global emergence of K-pop and Korean cultural content, KCON has evolved into “the world’s only festival that combines K-pop shows with a convention where fans can experience every aspect of Korean culture — from music and fashion, to television and food,” according to the organizer.

Last year’s festival was a big success for the company, with KCON JAPAN drawing a record-breaking crowd of 140,000 attendees while KCON LA engaged approximately 5.8 million fans from 176 countries both on-site and via its digital platforms, CJ ENM reported.
