SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — The state-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) said Wednesday it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Serbian government to expand cooperation in the nuclear energy and hydrogen sectors.
Under the MOU, KHNP will join hands with Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy to lay ground for the European nation’s nuclear energy industry and foster a professional workforce, while collaborating for a green hydrogen project, according to KHNP officials.
The MOU was signed during the Korea-Serbia Strategic Energy Development Forum held in Belgrade on Tuesday (local time), the officials said.
Serbia has recently been pushing to diversify the country’s energy mix, currently focused on coal, and expand the use of renewable energy sources, such as nuclear, hydrogen and wind, as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
“Through this cooperation, we will continue to advance our energy partnership with the Serbian government … and create broad opportunities for future collaboration with Serbia in the field of clean energy,” KHNP President Whang Joo-ho said in a press release.
