SEOUL, Oct. 20 (Korea Bizwire) – Kia Motors Corp.’s Niro hybrid has been selected as the most reliable new car in a U.S. annual survey of automobile owners, the company said Friday.
Helped by fuel efficiency and enough load space capacity, the Niro crossover debuted as the least problematic car among 640,000 vehicles in this year’s Consumer Reports 2017 Auto Reliability Survey, a Kia spokesman said.
Kia’s lowest scoring model is the Sportage sport-utility vehicle, which has average reliability, the company said.
This year, Kia rose two spots to rank third with a score of 71 points following Toyota Motor Corp. with 80 points and Lexus with 77 points, it said.
But Hyundai Motor Co. fell three places to rank 10th with a score of 59 points. The face-lifted Elantra (sold as the Avante in South Korea) compact had well-above average reliability and the Tucson compact SUV dropped to below average due to its faulty new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Hyundai and its sister company Kia together form the world’s fifth-biggest carmaker.
