SEOUL, March 18 (Korea Bizwire)Kia Corp. has joined hands with a local mobility solution provider to develop a one-stop electric car pickup and charging service.

South Korea’s No. 2 carmaker announced on Wednesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with YWMobile Co. to jointly develop an on-demand pickup and charging platform.

Under terms of the MOU, the two parties will develop and operate a one-stop service ranging from simple smartphone calls to vehicle pickup, delivery and rapid charging.

Owners of Kia electric cars can apply for the on-demand pickup and charging service through the Kia VIK application.

Once such requests are made, the staff in charge will a location chosen by the customer to pick up the vehicle. They will deliver the car back to the customer after rapidly charging it at a nearby charging station.

In particular, this service will leverage the digital key technology featured in Kia’s EV6 all-electric model scheduled to be released within the second half of this year.

This technology would make pickup and charging possible without face-to-face interaction between customers and the staff in charge even when customers and their cars are in different locations.
