DOHA, Feb. 5 (Korea Bizwire) – Kim Min-jae, the South Korean footballer who plies his trade for Bayern Munich in Germany’s Bundesliga, showcased an admirable level of responsibility and sportsmanship following a grueling match against Australia at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

After contributing to South Korea’s thrilling 2-1 comeback victory in the quarterfinal match at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, Qatar, Kim was selected for a doping test alongside teammate Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain.

Exhausted and drenched in sweat from playing the entire 120 minutes of the match, Kim spent over two hours completing the necessary urine and blood tests. While the Australian players selected for doping tests as well as Lee Kang-in were able to complete their tests and leave earlier, Kim was the last to finish.

Upon completing his tests, Kim noticed the doping control room littered with used towels, leftover snacks, and water bottles. Instead of heading straight to rest, he began to clean up the mess.

This unexpected act surprised the team’s manager, Lee Jae-chul, who tried to persuade Kim that there were staff members designated for cleaning. However, Kim insisted on tidying up, expressing concern that leaving the room in disarray could reflect poorly on the Korean team abroad.

Eventually, not only Kim but also the team doctor and other officials joined in, cleaning up after both the Korean and Australian players.

Lee commended Kim’s dedication and sportsmanship, stating that Kim’s actions, despite his fatigue and hunger, truly set him apart as a world-class player. The victory over Australia felt even more gratifying due to Kim’s commendable behavior off the field.
